Award winning Spanish architect Héctor Ruiz-Velázquez, has recently designed a beautiful penthouse interior in Madrid.

The price of the square meter is definitely the main concern of the 21 century. The high price tags along with the shortage of apartments in the town centers have called for a major redefinition of the spaces people live in.

In this particular attic of just sixty square meters inside and 50 square meters of patio/terrace in the center of the beautiful Spanish city of Madrid, the designer managed to use every inch of space available, combining sensibility, efficiency and spirit by means of function and aesthetics.

In case we had had to fit in all the functions in a non-sufficient space, the space would have literary collapsed, occupied by all the things that are not essential, and would for this reason have given view to the pure dimensions of the hardly hidden functions. In this way the designer has used simple yet effective theater tricks such as forced perspectives. The aim was to create wider spatial perceptions.

The white color and the lighting are essential. The white color and its multiple nuances of shadows created by light give a sense of wideness as well as deepness. The designer used some black points as well as surfaces as well. The aim was to give depth and scale and therefore create a melodic as well as matching contrast.
